The World According to Julie (Buckle Up!)

The man I love

The man I love

A lot of people ask, hey Julie why the obsession with Lincoln?  (actually only my cousin Alyson asked and that was out of concern 😬) but seriously, why the endless little sculptures and paintings and Lincoln quotes? -why are you always thinking about Lincoln and making Lincoln mugs?

Maybe it’s because American history feels so messy and disappointing, and Abraham Lincoln with his tall black hat and inimitable words “with malice toward none” were so beautiful, and fair, and so hopeful. Maybe it’s because Abraham Lincoln was a folk hero to everybody- one of the few things we all have in common these days 😕.

(Wow! Jessie Tyler Ferguson has my Lincoln in his foyer 🙂)

I know he was a real politician, making certain statements to his opposition so he could get elected. But within the ideals of his very core he did all this so he could become the President of the United States -fight for a higher purpose, and sign the emancipation proclamation! (considering the times, clearly one of the greatest things a president has ever done!)

And that’s why I love Lincoln, because he was brave, and real, and SOOOO humble.

Oh, and he was funny too!

How did someone so much larger than life have so much humanity and humility? That’s what I think about.

Thanks to my silly obsession I know every line on Lincoln‘s face and every crease in his troubled eyes. I’m not a real folk painter, but maybe I'm a folk hero painter?

And I’m hardly a Lincoln scholar.

But I am a Lincoln believer. And that’s something I like to share in the store ♥️.

And coming back this fall....
