A Fishs Eddy Fairytale for the New Year

A Fishs Eddy Fairytale for the New Year

Once upon a time -which is already a suspicious way to start a Fishs Eddy blog post - there was a Peruvian prince 🤴 who fell in love with a beautiful girl while they were both toiling away in the Fishs Eddy warehouse in New Jersey.

Ok not exactly Bridgerton.

But every word of this story is true.

I’m talking about our very own Danny.

For years, Danny quietly ran the warehouse in Irvington, New Jersey while we were busy back at the store making waves — hosting nonstop events, collaborations, and windows that made the news. As far as retail goes, we were the big disruptors.

It’s not that we didn’t think about Danny, it’s just that Danny made the entire back end run perfectly -everything just worked. Which, if you’ve ever run a business, you know is full on wizardry!

Then COVID hit.

Record scratch. Full stop.

That’s when Noah announced that we were going to have to shut down our warehouse, and shrink our team 🥺.

Noah said, “Danny’s the best of the best. We have to beg him to come into the city and work at 19th Street. Oh, and there’s also this girl named Anel.

-- Anel and her dog Molly who missed her appointment at the orthodontist --

Anel was nervous about her English. We were nervous about everything. As it turned out, smart, capable, fearless Anel’s English was perfect — I think ours was the problem 🤦.

So there we were - a small group of us doing whatever it took to keep Fishs Eddy alive, hoping COVID would eventually go away. Some of what we did was downright comical 🫢

-Unhinged

-Ill advised

-but that’s another blog post.

Now, back to that prince guy.

One day, manager Cathy walked by and overheard Danny say something to Anel in Spanish. Something that translated to “darling.”

OH SNAP, thought Cathy.

The jig was up!!!

Apparently Danny and Anelita found love among the bubble wrap and packing supplies back in the warehouse, in New Jersey.

But if we had never discovered the secret romance, we would have (eventually, hopefully) noticed Anel’s rather large belly soon after!

So the news was a double surprise, and the day we found out goes down as one of the happiest days in Fishs Eddy history!

Anelita hauled dishes right up until baby Aaron was born. After that, she didn’t come back — which was hard to understand because she knew us so much better than she knew the new baby 🤔

-- Me begging Danny to come back right after paternity leave! --

-- It looks like Anelita is thinking about us right about now 🤔 --

But the truth is, Danny wasn’t the only one that fell in love with Anelita, we had fallen in love with her too.

Three years later, we’ve been lucky enough to watch their beautiful little family. We love when Anelita and Baby Aaron come by the store to visit.

And… wait for it… one more fairytale moment -Danny finally got his papers and traveled back to Peru to see his abuelita.

“Danelita, I can’t die until you come here to see me,” said Danny’s grandmother 😂

(I’m totally convinced this woman was Jewish in another lifetime!)

The moral of the story is-

At Fishs Eddy…

fairytales really do come true

Even in warehouses.

Even during pandemics.

And especially when good people find each other 😍
